Over the weekend of 14 - 16 February the costs to operate the Helen McArdle In-Patient Wing at Willow Burn Hospice have been donated in loving memory of Marc Quinn.

Marc passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday 5th October at Willow Burn at the age of 45. Only two weeks prior being diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Marc leaves behind Alyson, daughters Lucy and Sally, devoted parents, Brian and Heather and two brothers Neil and Philip.

"Marc grew up in Blackhill and moved to Burnopfield in his early twenties. Marc was a free spirit and his love for his family was unconditional. He was loved by everyone who knew him. Marc was popular and had so many friends in his life who all miss him greatly.

When Marc was asked where he wanted to go for his final days, Marc said home. However, on reflection Marc decided that he didn’t want our two young daughters to witness his decline in health at home and decided on a Hospice.

At this point we both had limited knowledge of a Hospice and what to expect. As soon as Marc informed the Palliative Care team at hospital of his decision, I received a call from Jackie at Willow Burn. Jackie said they had a bed for Marc if he would like to come to stay and we will be looked after. She wasn't wrong! Two days later we arrived at Willow Burn.

It was a vast contrast to the busy loud hospital where Marc had been for the last 11 days. The room was beautiful with stunning views over the valley. Marc knew he had made the right decision not just for him but for the whole family.

The environment for our daughters was so much more relaxing and they were able to enjoy this precious time with their dad. We had the opportunity to take Marc into the gardens and enjoy the outdoors, something Marc loved to do.

We will always be truly grateful to all the staff at Willow Burn for the peace they brought to Marc in his final days.

From the moment we arrived all the staff were amazing. They not only cared for Marc they made sure I was ok, watched over the girls and provided comfort to Marc’s parents and brothers.

It is our absolute pleasure to raise money for such a wonderful and important place.

We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity with our fundraising for Willow Burn. Thank you.

Marc, there will never be a day we don’t miss you, but we’ll carry your love wherever we go, and your girls will never stop hearing stories about their amazing dad.

Love you always.
