Supporting our Community to Treasure Lives

Compassionate Willow Burn

Willow Burn Hospice is committed to supporting our community to treasure lives, to live well and to die well.

Willow Burn Hospice recognises the value of care and support from carers, friends, employers, colleagues, families and other organisations and groups in the community when people are faced with death and experiencing grief. Willow Burn Hospice is committed to developing the community resources within County Durham to ensure that nobody feels alone, and everyone has a connection.

"Willow Burn has a warmth to it and it's nice to feel as a volunteer we are supported to be the best we can be to support a truly valued hospice in our community. "

As an organisation we will seek to support people through the most challenging of life’s experiences by:

  • Supporting and listening to people who are working at WBH whilst living with a life limiting illness or caring for someone with a life limiting illness or who are grieving.

  • Equipping employees of WBH with the skills to support and listen to colleagues, patients, families and visitors who are living with a life limiting illness or caring for someone with a life limiting illness or who are grieving.

  • Supporting and listening to members of the community who are living with a life limiting illness or caring for someone with a life limiting illness or who are grieving.

  • Integrating into the community to equip and empower people to be confident to support and listen to family, friends, colleagues and members of the wider community who are living with a life limiting illness or caring for someone with a life limiting illness or who are grieving.

  • Actively promote and engage in conversations about death and dying.
