The Tea Hatch at Shotley Bridge Hospital

After several years of closure, the Tea Hatch at Shotley Bridge Hospital has officially reopened — now under the care of Willow Burn Hospice.

We’re delighted to bring light refreshments back to the hospital, offering hot and cold drinks, along with sweet and savoury snacks for patients, staff, and visitors.

“We’re proud to bring this special space back to life. We are very much looking forward to serving the Derwentside community at Shotley Bridge Hospital.”

Tea Hatch Information

Please note: If you visit and we happen to be closed, bear with us as we continue to recruit more volunteers. Weekly updated opening times are displayed on the Tea Hatch shutter.

The Tea Hatch is located in the Main Waiting Area, just around the corner from the Outpatients Reception.
This is a takeaway service which can be enjoyed in the Waiting Room.

Made Possible by Passionate People

This reopening wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of Joan Littlefair, who worked closely with the NHS Property Team and Aaron Archibald (Senior Estates Manager – NHS Property Services).

Thanks to their efforts, this much-loved service is back — and already receiving a warm welcome from the Derwentside community.

“We’re proud to bring this special space back to life and have been overwhelmed by the response to Willow Burn taking it over. My sincere gratitude goes to our volunteers and everyone who made it possible to reopen this service. We are very much looking forward to serving the Derwentside community at Shotley Bridge Hospital.”
