We were very privileged to have some incredible supporters taking on the world's most iconic half marathon on Sunday 8 September to raise funds for Willow Burn Hospice.

We are honoured to share some of our fundraisers inspiring stories as we send our special thanks for taking on this incredible challenge for their local hospice.

This is Jackie and Alex's Story...

In 2016 Jackie’s beloved Dad (Alex’s Granda Mac) passed away in Willow Burn after being cared for by the amazing staff.  At the time, Jackie was working as a midwife at Durham, but Willow Burn left such a footprint on her heart, that she felt like she wanted to give something back and care for others, the way her dad had been cared for.

Jackie, already a qualified Nurse, returned to University at Northumbria and became a bank nurse at Willow Burn in 2020 before taking up a permanent position in 2021.

After that, Jackie’s daughter, Alex also started getting involved, volunteering at our Nurses’ Fairs.  Jackie and Alex love giving back and being a part of the incredible Willow Burn family.

In 2023 Jackie cared for a treasured friend and colleagues’ daughter in Willow Burn, Emma Soulsby, alongside all her wonderful work friends, highlighting the importance of this fantastic charity.

Wish us luck (we're definitely going to need it)!

This is for you Dad/Granda Mac & Emma!
