As North Durham Safety Ltd celebrates a decade in business, the company is marking this milestone in a way that reflects its core values of family, community and care.
Founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Andrew Brown and Tracy Innes, North Durham Safety began from humble beginnings with little more than a desk at the top of the stairs and a vision to provide high-quality health and safety support. Just one month after launching, the company secured a significant contract for a major gas plant construction project in Manchester, laying the foundations for future growth.
By the completion of that project in 2017, North Durham Safety had already secured additional contracts and continued to expand. Alongside supporting major national and international clients, the business has remained committed to helping small and medium-sized enterprises across the North East, providing professional health and safety expertise to organisations that may not require a full-time safety professional.
Over the past ten years, the company has evolved into a true family business, with Andrew and Tracy's children - Cameron, Katie and, more recently, Connie - joining the team and helping to broaden the range of services offered to clients.
While the business has enjoyed considerable success, the journey has also been marked by personal loss. In 2022, Tracy's mother, Vera Innes, passed away following an 18-month battle with cancer. A much-loved figure in the Annfield Plain community, Vera touched countless lives and is remembered fondly by all who knew her.
During her final days, Vera was admitted to Willow Burn Hospice. The compassion, professionalism and support shown by the hospice staff left a lasting impression on the family, who remain deeply grateful for the care she received.
To mark ten years in business, North Durham Safety has chosen to give back to Willow Burn Hospice by helping to fund much-needed equipment. Having supported the hospice through fundraising initiatives such as Pedal for Pounds over the years, the company felt it was the perfect opportunity to share some of the success achieved over the last decade with an organisation that means so much to the family.
Reflecting on the donation, the team at North Durham Safety said:
"We know Vera and the family would be very proud to see this today. Willow Burn Hospice provided exceptional care, support and kindness when it mattered most, and we are honoured to be able to give something back as we celebrate ten years in business."
