Regular visitors and friends of Willow Burn will recognise Liz Malone as one of our wonderful volunteers.
This year, along with her friends Jill and Helen, Liz has signed up to take on her toughest challenge to date by taking part in the Northumberland Coastal Challenge. We grabbed Liz for a chat (as she was heading out an another training walk with Jill) to find out why she has chosen to take part in this fantastic challenge and fundraise for Willow Burn Hospice...
"I had worked for Willow Burn as a ward clerk until 2018. I returned during the COVID pandemic as a volunteer receptionist one day a week and I also help out in the café.
I’ve found this role extremely rewarding and I’ve met some amazing people and made new friends.
In a moment of weakness/madness I signed up to ‘The Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk’ of 26 miles with another two friends. I had been tempted to do the Great North Run but I’m hoping this walk will be more enjoyable!! Lots of stops on a beautiful scenic route. We’ve started our training and have discovered new walks and, most importantly, more coffee shops!
This will be my biggest challenge in 64 years!! Wish me and my friends lots of luck."
We are so very grateful to Liz for showing her love for Willow Burn by taking on the Northumberland Coastal Challenge 26 mile Walk.
If you would like to set yourself an incredible challenge, whilst supporting your local hospice, why not sign up to take part today, simply get in touch with our fundraiser Ali English to secure your place. We'd love to have you on #TeamWillowBurn at The Northumberland Coastal Walk on 10 June.
Some call it fundraising. We call it life-changing. 💚
