On Thursday 15 January, the costs to fund one full day of care in the Sir Tom Cowie Day Care Centre have been kindly donated in loving memory of Mick Young.

Mick’s family have chosen today to honour him as it would have been his 79th birthday.

"On the 31st October, Mick passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short stay in hospital.

With Brenda, his wonderful wife of 53 years, Mick lived a very happy life, full of love, laughter and joy. He was well known by so many for his kindness, humour and practical jokes.

He loved his family deeply. His two children Paul and Jill, his son in law Simon and his beautiful granddaughter Ivy were the most important people in the world to him - he loved nothing more than sitting down for a Sunday roast with them all catching up on their lives.

Mick also had many friends, some of those friendships spanning over 65 years.

Mick was never happier than when he was spending time with his family and friends. He loved pottering at home, days out exploring the north east, as well as nights out and a few pints of John Smiths with friends.

Mick was also a great supporter of local charities and Willow Burn has been part of Mick’s life since before it opened, his wife Brenda being one of the original volunteers who helped start the centre off and remained a volunteer for many years. His daughter Jill was also part of the opening of the original Willow Burn and has raised money for centre over many years. So, as a family they decided it was a fitting tribute to our local hero to donate to Willow Burn in his memory.

Mick has left huge holes in the hearts of those that loved him, but happy memories to last a lifetime. He is greatly missed.

We will love you always.
