On Tuesday 14 July the costs to fund one full day of care in the Sir Tom Cowie Day Care Centre have been kindly donated in loving memory of Joan Johnson.

"The family of Joan Johnson have chosen today as Joan’s 92nd Birthday to honour her memory and celebrate a life filled with love, kindness and devotion to family.

Joan was a beloved mam to Paul, Lorraine and Trevor, a proud grandma to Harley and Meesha, and the devoted wife of her late husband Terry.

The youngest of six children, Joan remained close to her family throughout her life and spoke fondly of the strong bonds she shared with her brothers and sisters. Family meant everything to her, and she spent her life caring for those around her.

Joan was well known for her kindness, generosity and caring nature. She worked for more than 20 years at Earl's House, a role she loved deeply, and she touched the lives of many people through her compassion and willingness to help others. She also spent time working at Willow Burn as a domestic, making the hospice a place that remained close to her heart.

She loved films, especially the old classics and war films, and could name film stars with remarkable ease. Music was another great passion, and family gatherings were often filled with singing, dancing and laughter as Joan enjoyed the sounds of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and many of the great crooners she loved so much.

Joan also enjoyed a vibrant social life with Terry, spending time with family and friends, dancing, bingo, and making happy memories with those closest to her. She was never happier than when surrounded by the people she loved.

Despite a long journey with Alzheimer's, Joan remained fiercely independent and very proud of her family, who supported her with love and dedication throughout her illness.  On 8 December 2025, Joan passed away peacefully at Willow Burn Hospice following the compassionate care and support of the team there.

Joan has left a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved her, but also a lifetime of treasured memories. She is, and always will be, greatly missed.

"The greatest wonders man can build will all in time decay. But the wonder of a mother's love will never fade away."

We will love and remember you always."
