Visitors and friends of Willow Burn will recognise Liz as one of our wonderful volunteers.
On Saturday 10 June this year Liz and her friends Jill, Helen and Claire took on the awesome Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk for Willow Burn.
Having worked for Willow Burn as a ward clerk until 2018, Liz returned during the COVID pandemic as a volunteer receptionist one day a week and supporting our café team and has been part of our vital volunteer team ever since.
Liz said 'I’ve found this role extremely rewarding and I’ve met some amazing people and made new friends.
In a moment of weakness/madness I signed up to ‘The Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk’ of 26 miles with my friends.
I had been tempted to do the Great North Run but I’m hoping this walk will be more enjoyable - lots of stops on a beautiful scenic route!
During our training we discovered new walks and, most importantly, more coffee shops!
This was my biggest challenge in 64 years!!"
Together the friends were an absolute force to be reckoned with, helping others along the route, and taking on this incredible challenge with sheer determination. They have raised an incredible £1,897.00 between them, with fundraising STILL coming in.
We are so very grateful to Liz, Jill, Helen and Claire for showing their love for Willow Burn by taking on the Northumberland Coastal Challenge 26 mile Walk, they are true #hospiceheroes
