With just 16 days to go until the Great North Run, we're thrilled to share Reggie's story, who is taking on the Mini Great North Run on Saturday 12 September in support of Willow Burn Hospice, inspired by the care and kindness shown to his beloved great grandma, affectionately known as his “Grommy”.

Reggie's mam, Chloe explained why taking part was so important to him:

Reggie has chosen to take part in The Mini Great North Run for Willow Burn as he knows the special work that everyone does there. I asked who he would like to run for and he replied with the people that helped his ‘Grommy’ as they were so kind and really nice to him too.

 She added:

The care and compassion shown to not only Reggie’s grandma, but to the whole family was above and beyond.”

Although Reggie was very young when his great grandma passed away, the pair shared a wonderful bond. From Christmas celebrations and birthdays to simple days spent together, they created memories that his family still cherish today.

Reggie and his ‘Grommy’ had a really special bond. Although he was just young when she passed away, they shared some lovely times together. They were the best of friends. We visited her all the time and he loved going to her house to play dominoes and boss her around!

Now, Reggie is honouring those memories by pulling on his running shoes and preparing for the Mini Great North Run.

Training is already underway, with Reggie enjoying every minute of it.

The training is going really well. We have been on a few little runs together and he loves it.

The fundraising effort has also received fantastic support from family and friends, with donations continuing to come in as race day approaches.

The fundraising is going really well too. Lots of people are donating. I will be sharing the link again to all my family and friends for one last final push.”

Everyone at Willow Burn would like to say a huge thank you to Reggie and his family for their incredible support. We are so proud that Reggie has chosen to take on this challenge in memory of his Grommy and we wish him the very best of luck on race day 💚
