With just 30 days to go until the Great North Run, we're delighted to introduce Louis, who is taking on the world's greatest half marathon in support of Willow Burn Hospice in honour of his beloved mam, Carole.
"My mam Carole Caile was an absolute ray of sunshine and everyone who knew her loved her for who she was. She was the life and soul of any party and knew how to make absolutely anyone laugh! Even towards the end of her life, when everyone around her could see how ill she was, she never allowed it to take over and ruin anything. She always had a smile on her face and tried to be positive. I’ll never forget the last thing she ever said to me while she was laid in her hospital bed just before she went into a coma, ‘Louis, I love you and everything will be okay’.
I’ve chosen to fundraise for Willow Burn because the work that is done here gives many families the support, care and dignity that end-of-life care requires. My mam was supposed to come to Willow Burn before her condition in hospital rapidly deteriorated meaning she never got the chance, but just to have been offered a bed by Willow Burn meant the world to our family. The money raised through fundraising is crucial and goes towards allowing Willow Burn to keep supporting families and individuals who are often going through the most difficult period of their lives.
My training is going really well; I’m an avid runner anyways so doing the Great North Run is something I’m really looking forward to. Just passed £500 on the fundraising front, hopefully can keep pushing this higher to help support Willow Burn with the crucial work they do."
Every mile and every pound raised helps Willow Burn continue providing invaluable palliative care and support to patients and families across our community.
We are incredibly grateful to Louis for his support and wish him every success as he continues his journey towards the Great North Run.
