On Sunday 13 September, Lauren will be joining thousands of runners on the start line of the World's greatest half-marathon and raising funds for Willow Burn Hospice. Lauren's motivation for taking part comes from a deeply personal connection to the hospice and a desire to give something back.

"In 2012, Willow Burn cared for my dad’s mam, providing incredible support and care during such an important time for our family. After she sadly passed away, my dad continued to support Willow Burn and the amazing work they do.

In 2016, he took on the Great North Run for the first time, and again in 2017, in memory of his mam. I remember standing alongside my family, making banners and cheering him on every step of the way.

Over the years, our family has raised a significant amount of money for this fantastic cause, which has always held such a special place in our hearts.

Now, in 2026, I am incredibly proud to be following in my dad’s footsteps by running the Great North Run for my own nan, who sadly lost her battle with cancer last year. What started with my dad running in memory of his mam has now inspired me to run in memory of my nan.

I hope that as I take on those 13.1 miles, I can carry my nan’s memory with me every step of the way, just as my dad did all those years ago.

This run is more than just a challenge - it is a tribute to two incredible women, a continuation of my family’s story, and a way of giving back to the charity that has supported our family. Together, through the years, we have raised so much money for Willow Burn and I feel incredibly proud to continue that journey in memory of my nan."

Every mile and every pound raised helps Willow Burn continue providing invaluable palliative care and support to patients and families across our community.

We are incredibly grateful to Lauren for following in her dad's footsteps to support Willow Burn Hospice and wish her every success as she continues her journey towards the Great North Run.
