As the Great North Run draws closer, we're shining a spotlight on some of our incredible runners who are taking on the challenge in support of Willow Burn Hospice. Today, we're sharing Ellie’s story.
For Ellie, supporting Willow Burn is something she has already experienced in a remarkable way.
In December, she was part of The Buskers & Friends Charity Christmas Single, which brought together a group of local singers to record the iconic Band Aid song.
"In December I was a part of a project called 'Buskers & Friends', where a group of local singers came together to record Band Aid. Within the space of four short weeks, we managed to raise £10,447.51 for the hospice and a further £447.51 for Band Aid Trust."
The success of the project was down to the dedication of everyone involved and the generosity of supporters across the community.
"This was thanks to the hard work of Barrie and friends and of course, everyone that donated."
Following the project, Ellie and the group were invited to Willow Burn to learn more about the difference their fundraising had made. Seeing firsthand the impact of their efforts inspired conversations about how they could continue supporting the hospice in the future.
"After completing the above project, Willow Burn invited us in to chat about how far that money went and we then spent the evening talking about how the hospice could raise further funds. Taking part in the GNR felt so fitting."
While she admits she's feeling nervous about the challenge ahead, Ellie knows every mile will be worthwhile.
"I feel nervous for the challenge ahead, but it will be worth it!"
Over the past four years, Ellie has built a successful singing journey and says Willow Burn has been there supporting her every step of the way.
"Over the last four years of my singing journey, Willow Burn have been very supportive through social media and have booked me for multiple events over the years."
As someone who grew up in Lanchester, Ellie has also seen the impact Willow Burn has on local families and the wider community.
"Being from Lanchester myself, I have seen many friends and family find comfort and support from such a fantastic local charity."
Now, she's swapping the stage for the starting line as she prepares to take on the Great North Run and raise even more funds for hospice care.
Thank you, Ellie, for your continued support, dedication and fundraising efforts. We wish you the very best of luck with your training and on race day itself.
And Ellie has a message for her fellow runners:
"Good luck to everyone taking part and enjoy the experience!"
Good luck, Ellie, and thank you for helping us make every moment matter 💚
