Most people climbing Ben Nevis would choose walking boots and layers of waterproof clothing. But on 5 August, supporter Kyran Hall will be tackling the UK's highest mountain in a pair of Crocs and Speedos to raise money for Willow Burn Hospice.
Kyran has chosen to support Willow Burn in memory of his beloved nana, Margaret Hall, who sadly passed away from cancer earlier this year.
Margaret was diagnosed with cancer in March and died in May, leaving behind a family who loved her dearly and continue to miss her every day.
Speaking about his challenge, Kyran said:
"The reason for doing it is I lost my Nana suddenly due to cancer a couple of months ago. She was diagnosed in March and passed in May.
She was an incredibly strong woman who was very much for her family. She was fiercely protective over her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, sister and mother.
She was very loved and will be very much missed.
To honour her strength and perseverance, I feel it is only right to do something in her memory. However, what I'm doing is a fraction of what she endured."
While Margaret was not cared for by Willow Burn herself, Kyran says the hospice has provided support to other members of his family over the years. As his local hospice, supporting Willow Burn felt like the perfect way to honour his nana's memory while helping local families facing difficult times.
His unusual choice of attire is certain to attract a few smiles from fellow walkers, but behind the challenge lies a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable woman whose strength and devotion to her family continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
By taking on Ben Nevis in Crocs and Speedos, Kyran hopes to raise vital funds to help Willow Burn continue providing compassionate care and support to local people and their families when they need it most.
Everyone at Willow Burn Hospice would like to thank Kyran for his incredible support and wish him the very best of luck for his challenge on 5 August.
